25 Years On, Uttarakhand’s Government Schools Still Struggle with Poor Infrastructure and Teacher Dissatisfaction

Dehradun | November 10, 2025

Two and a half decades after the formation of Uttarakhand, the state’s government schools continue to grapple with dilapidated infrastructure, teacher shortages, and falling student enrolment, according to a recent report by The Times of India.

Many schools in hilly and rural regions are functioning with inadequate classrooms, poor sanitation facilities, and a lack of digital resources. Teachers have voiced growing frustration over delayed transfers, limited training opportunities, and minimal incentives to serve in remote locations.

Education experts warn that these systemic issues are directly affecting learning outcomes, as students face disruptions in teaching, long commutes, and limited exposure to extracurricular or vocational learning.

Despite government efforts to implement digital initiatives and the National Education Policy (NEP) reforms, progress remains uneven. Stakeholders are calling for urgent measures to upgrade infrastructure, ensure fair teacher deployment, and enhance accountability in school administration.
