Himachal Pradesh Government Launches Reconstruction Drive for 1,411 Disaster-Hit Schools; 42 New Boarding Campuses Planned
The Government of Himachal Pradesh has announced a major initiative to rebuild and modernise 1,411 school buildings damaged by recent natural disasters, marking a significant investment in the state’s education and infrastructure resilience.
According to official statements, the state’s School Education Department will prioritise the reconstruction of schools that were destroyed or rendered unsafe by floods, landslides, and heavy rains in recent years. The plan includes the construction of 42 modern residential (boarding) schools at key locations to ensure continued access to quality education for students from remote and vulnerable regions.
Officials confirmed that the new facilities will feature seismic-resistant designs, digital classrooms, libraries, laboratories, and improved sanitation infrastructure. The reconstruction work will be supported by central and state disaster-response funds, with additional assistance from public-sector and CSR contributions.
The initiative reflects the government’s focus on building climate-resilient educational infrastructure, ensuring that learning continuity is not disrupted by environmental crises. Education experts have welcomed the decision, noting that the integration of safety and sustainability standards will set a new benchmark for school infrastructure in hilly states.
Chief Minister officials emphasized that beyond physical rebuilding, the state aims to “rebuild confidence and opportunity” for thousands of students affected by last year’s severe monsoon disasters.
