Equity Group Foundation Expands ‘Equity Leaders Program’ Across East Africa, Securing Fully Funded Global University Placements

Nairobi, Kenya | November 12, 2025

The Equity Group Foundation (EGF) has announced an expansion of its flagship Equity Leaders Program (ELP) across East Africa, securing fully funded university placements for outstanding students from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The initiative continues to serve as one of Africa’s most influential youth development pipelines, linking academic excellence with leadership and community service.

Empowering Future Leaders Through Global Education

Launched in 1998, the Equity Leaders Program identifies top-performing secondary school graduates and supports their transition into global higher education institutions, including Ivy League and other top-ranked universities. The program combines mentorship, internship experience, leadership training, and community engagement, equipping participants to drive transformation in their home countries.

Through EGF’s network and partnerships, several students have secured admission to leading institutions such as Harvard, Yale, Stanford, MIT, and Oxford, among others — many with full scholarships. The 2025 expansion will extend these opportunities to hundreds more students across the region.

Regional Collaboration and Long-Term Impact

The initiative underscores EGF’s mission to foster regional integration and equitable human-capital development through education. According to the Foundation, the program now aims to create cross-border cohorts of African scholars, building a Pan-African community of leaders ready to address challenges in governance, innovation, and sustainability.

James Mwangi, Group Managing Director and CEO of Equity Group Holdings, said the program’s expansion represents “a long-term investment in Africa’s leadership and talent potential — ensuring that academic excellence translates into social and economic transformation.

A Model for Inclusive Growth

The program’s impact extends beyond scholarships. Alumni have gone on to found enterprises, enter public service, and lead regional innovation projects. With its mentorship network and reinvestment in community-based initiatives, the ELP stands as a replicable model for equitable access and leadership in education.
