โ Initiative to modernise facilities, integrate professional coaching, and nurture student athletes across the capital
New Delhi | November 10, 2025
The Delhi Government has announced a sweeping plan to upgrade sports infrastructure and training programmes across government schools in the national capital. The initiative, aimed at promoting physical education, discipline, and holistic student development, will involve the construction of modern sports grounds, multipurpose auditoriums, and dedicated training centres, alongside partnerships with leading professional sports academies.
Modern Facilities for Every School Zone
Under the new plan, government schools in each education zone will be equipped with upgraded athletic tracks, synthetic turfs, indoor sports complexes, and multipurpose auditoriums capable of hosting inter-school and district-level tournaments. Emphasis will be placed on both mainstream and emerging sports, including athletics, football, basketball, table tennis, badminton, and martial arts.
Officials from the Directorate of Education stated that the infrastructure expansion will be accompanied by structured training modules for physical education teachers and school coaches. These will align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 focus on integrating sports and arts into the academic framework.
Professional Partnerships and Talent Development
The government also announced partnerships with professional sports academies and national federations, enabling student-athletes to access specialised coaching, fitness assessment, and competitive exposure. Collaborations are being finalised with bodies including the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and several private academies with proven track records in youth training.
This model aims to establish sports excellence clusters across Delhi, ensuring that talented students from underrepresented areas have pathways to regional, national, and international competition.
Investment in Youth and Community Health
The initiative reflects Delhiโs broader commitment to promoting health, wellness, and teamwork among schoolchildren. The government has also announced plans to organise annual inter-school championships, reward top-performing student-athletes, and provide sports scholarships for higher education.
Education Department officials indicated that a dedicated monitoring and performance-evaluation framework will ensure the timely completion and efficient operation of new facilities by the 2026โ27 academic year.
