State Invests in Global Benchmarking for Pedagogical Excellence
CHANDIGARH, PUNJAB – In a continuing effort to elevate the quality of public education, the Punjab government has dispatched a new batch of 72 government school teachers to Finland for advanced professional development training. This initiative reinforces the state’s sustained commitment to benchmarking its teaching practices against one of the world’s highest-performing education systems.
Focus on Capacity Building and Modern Pedagogy
The program, which is fully sponsored by the state government, provides selected teachers with intensive training focused on contemporary teaching methodologies, child-centered learning, and innovative pedagogical approaches prevalent in Finnish schools.
The key objectives of the training include:
- Experiential Learning: Teachers are exposed to the Finnish model’s emphasis on practical, inquiry-based learning and reducing reliance on rote memorization.
- Teacher Autonomy and Well-being: The training offers insights into the high degree of professional autonomy granted to Finnish teachers and strategies for promoting teacher well-being and collaborative development.

The selection process for this batch prioritized teachers who demonstrated a strong capacity for leadership and a commitment to serving as master trainers upon their return.
