University of Liverpool Commences Admissions for its New Bengaluru Campus in 2026

Location: Bengaluru, India Date: November 21, 2025

The University of Liverpool (UK) has officially opened admissions for its first overseas campus in Bengaluru’s Alembic City, marking a significant and tangible advancement of the India-UK Vision 2035 partnership and the core internationalization goals of India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The campus is scheduled to commence operations in September 2026, with the inaugural cohort expected to be around 250 students.

Strategic Program Offerings and Cost Advantage

The Bengaluru campus will offer a focused portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate programs that directly align with Indiaโ€™s Future Skills demand and the local high-tech ecosystem:

  • Core Offerings: Computer Science, Business Management, Accounting and Finance, Biomedical Sciences, and crucially, Game Design. The Game Design program is noted as a first-of-its-kind offering from a UK university’s branch campus in India, strategically targeting Bengaluru’s thriving gaming industry.
  • UK Standard, Local Cost: All degrees will be accredited by the UK, with the curriculum mirroring the standards of the Liverpool home campus. A major draw for Indian students is the anticipated fee structure, which the university stated will be less than half the cost typically paid by international students in the UK, making a world-class degree significantly more affordable.
  • Infrastructure for Innovation: The facility, located near Whitefield, is designed as a modern learning center featuring smart classrooms, innovation studios, specialized laboratories, and Bloomberg terminals. This infrastructure is intended to support a flipped teaching model and heavy collaboration with industry partners, fostering Workforce Readiness.

Alignment with National Policy

The establishment of the campus embodies two key policy objectives:

  1. NEP 2020 Internationalization: The NEP 2020 promotes “internationalisation at home,” allowing top Global Universities to establish campuses to enhance the quality of Indian higher education, curb “brain drain,” and help meet the ambitious 50% Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) target by 2035.
  2. India-UK Vision 2035: The launch follows the endorsement of the India-UK Vision 2035 in July 2025, which designated education and skills as flagship pillars of the revitalized bilateral relationship, explicitly encouraging the establishment of transnational education partnerships.

The University of Liverpool has confirmed plans for a robust Research base in Bengaluru focusing on sustainability, digital transformation, and health sciences, aiming to build strong ties with local industry and academic institutions. The admissions process is now live and tailored to accommodate diverse Indian and international examination boards.
