New Delhi, 26 October 2025 – In a significant development, direct flights between India and China have resumed after more than five years of suspension. The first flight since the freeze โ from Kolkata to Guangzhou โ departed today, marking a thaw in connectivity between the two Asian giants.
The suspension of direct flights followed compounding events: the Covid-19 pandemic and the intensified border stand-off at the Galwan Valley in June 2020. Diplomatic sources say the resumption is part of a broader bilateral reset that begun late 2024 with agreements on border patrols.
