New Delhi, Oct 29:
The Union Cabinet today approved the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the much-awaited 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC), which will determine the new salary structure, allowances, and pension revisions for over 50 lakh government employees and 69 lakh pensioners.
The commission has been directed to submit its report within 18 months, paving the way for implementation from January 1, 2026.
The last major pay revision, under the 7th CPC, was implemented in 2016.
Government sources indicate the 8th CPC will consider cost-of-living adjustments, inflation, and productivity metrics. Employee unions have welcomed the move, calling it โa long-pending relief.โ
