As Hurricane Melissa moved north toward Cuba, international relief agencies rushed aid shipments to Jamaica, where the storm’s trail of destruction has crippled transportation, healthcare, and communication networks.

The United NationsRed Cross, and CARICOM have mobilized emergency medical teams, while the United States and the European Union pledged millions in aid. Jamaica’s meteorological office warned of renewed flash-flood risks as residual rainfall continues across southern parishes.

Cuban authorities have evacuated more than 150,000 people from coastal provinces ahead of Melissa’s expected landfall late tonight.
