Bhopal, 4 November 2025 – An Air India flight operating from Delhi to Bengaluru was diverted to Bhopal on Monday after the crew detected a technical malfunction mid-air, prompting emergency protocols. The Airbus A320 aircraft, carrying 172 passengers and six crew members, landed safely at Raja Bhoj International Airport around 1:15 PM, averting what could have been a major mishap.
According to airline officials, the pilot reported fluctuations in cabin pressure indicators shortly after the flight crossed Gwalior airspace. Following standard safety procedures, the captain decided to divert to the nearest airport equipped to handle emergencies. The aircraft made a normal landing and was escorted to an isolated bay for inspection.
Passengers Evacuated Safely
All passengers were evacuated after landing, and medical teams were stationed on-site as a precaution. No injuries were reported. Air India issued a statement confirming that “the aircraft was diverted due to a technical snag and landed safely in Bhopal. The safety of our passengers and crew remains our top priority.”
Replacement aircraft were later arranged to transport the passengers to Bengaluru.
Investigation Underway
Officials from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the malfunction. Preliminary checks suggest an issue related to pressurization sensors, though a detailed technical assessment is ongoing.
Airport Director Ram Tiwari commended the pilot and ground crew for their quick coordination.
“The captain’s decision to divert immediately was crucial. The emergency response was swift, and the passengers remained calm throughout,” he said.

Several passengers took to social media to thank the crew for their professionalism. “We were told calmly that there was a technical issue and that we’d be landing at Bhopal instead. Everything was handled smoothly,” wrote a traveler named Priya Nair.
The incident highlights the importance of rigorous in-flight monitoring systems and crew preparedness. India’s aviation regulator has tightened airworthiness audits in recent months amid rising passenger volumes. While such technical diversions are rare, they serve as a reminder of how crucial safety training and maintenance discipline are in India’s rapidly expanding aviation sector.
