Patna | November 5, 2025:
Campaigning for the first phase of the Bihar Legislative Assembly elections concluded on Tuesday evening, setting the stage for polling in 121 constituencies across 18 districts on November 6. The state is witnessing a high-voltage contest between the ruling NDA and the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
Top national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, crisscrossed the state over the past week, addressing rallies and roadshows in a final push to sway voters. The campaign was marked by sharp exchanges, promises of economic revival, and appeals to regional identity and caste solidarity.
The Election Commission has reported record voter awareness efforts, with additional security deployed in sensitive areas to ensure peaceful polling. The remaining two phases will follow later this month, covering the remaining 122 seats of the 243-member assembly.
Major issues dominating the campaign include employment, rising prices, corruption, women’s empowerment, and infrastructure. The ruling NDA has projected its development record and welfare schemes, while the opposition alliance has accused the government of neglecting youth and farmers.
In a statement after the campaign ended, Chief Electoral Officer H.R. Pandey urged citizens to “exercise their democratic right responsibly and peacefully,” highlighting new arrangements for accessible voting and digital monitoring.
Political observers say this election could prove decisive in shaping Bihar’s trajectory, with both alliances presenting competing visions for governance and growth. As the state braces for voting day, the political heat is at its peak — with every party confident of a decisive swing in its favour.
