Rajasthan to Revamp Board Exam Pattern with AI; Science to Begin from Class 3

Jaipur | November 6, 2025

In a major reform aimed at making school education more analytical and application-based, the Rajasthan School Education Department has announced a revamp of the board examination system. The state plans to use artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced digital tools to redesign question papers for Classes 10 and 12, moving away from rote-based evaluation toward conceptual and critical thinking.

Officials said the AI-supported system will help frame balanced and competency-focused question papers similar to those used by the CBSE. The initiative will later be extended to Classes 5 and 8, ensuring continuity and consistency in assessment standards across grades.

In another significant policy shift, science education will be introduced from Classes 3 to 5 in government schools. The move is intended to nurture curiosity and foundational scientific understanding from an early age.

Education Secretary Krishna Kunal stated that the new model aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizing inquiry-based learning and digital readiness. โ€œAI tools will ensure fairness, diversity, and accuracy in assessments, while supporting teachers to identify learning gaps more effectively,โ€ he said.

Pilot programs and teacher training sessions are expected to roll out in 2026, with full-scale implementation planned for the 2027 board exams.

Education experts have welcomed the initiative, calling it a step toward modernizing public education, though they also highlighted the need for digital infrastructure and teacher preparedness, especially in rural schools.

If executed successfully, Rajasthan could become one of the first Indian states to integrate AI into its examination framework and expand early science learning across primary schools.
