Visakhapatnam, Oct 29:
A severe cyclonic storm named Montha struck India’s eastern coast early Wednesday morning, unleashing winds between 90 to 110 km/h and torrential rainfall across coastal Andhra Pradesh and parts of Odisha.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclone made landfall near Kakinada and is expected to weaken gradually into a deep depression over the next 24 hours. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed 42 teams in the affected districts. More than 60,000 people have been evacuated from low-lying areas, while schools and offices remain closed in several coastal cities.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the situation through a high-level meeting and assured all possible assistance. Power supply has been disrupted in multiple coastal villages, and fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.
