The Karnataka Education Department has unveiled an early action plan aimed at increasing student enrolment in government schools for the 2026โ27 academic year, according to a report by The Times of India.
The plan includes district-level enrolment drives, parent outreach campaigns, and partnerships with local communities to counter the shift of students to private institutions. The state government is also introducing digital learning modules, upgraded classroom infrastructure, and extracurricular activity programs to make government schools more attractive to parents.
Officials stated that data-driven monitoring mechanisms will be employed to track enrolment and retention, with incentives for schools that demonstrate significant growth in admissions.
Educationists have welcomed the move but stressed the need for sustained teacher training, curriculum modernization, and public awareness to restore confidence in the government school system.
