PSEB to Offer Dual Certification Under NSQF, Integrating Vocational Skills in Punjab Schools

Chandigarh | November 8, 2025

The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) is taking steps to become a dual-certificate awarding body under the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF), aligning school education with vocational and skill-based training. The initiative aims to ensure that students graduate not only with academic credentials but also with industry-relevant skills.

Under the proposed model, students will receive two certificates โ€” one for academic learning from PSEB and another for skill training endorsed by the NSQF. This dual pathway is designed to bridge the gap between education and employability, preparing students for diverse career opportunities in sectors such as manufacturing, information technology, agriculture, and healthcare.

Officials said the board is collaborating with the Punjab Skill Development Mission (PSDM) and national skill councils to integrate vocational subjects into the regular curriculum from secondary classes onwards. The move is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes experiential learning and the inclusion of vocational education at all stages of schooling.

Experts have welcomed the decision, noting that it could help reduce dropout rates and improve job readiness among school graduates.

โ€œThis integration of skills and academics will empower students to make informed career choices and pursue both higher education and employment opportunities,โ€ said a senior official from PSEB.

The dual-certification model is expected to be implemented in a phased manner from the 2026 academic session, with pilot programs already underway in select government schools.
