Tensions Rise as Bihar Campaign Turns Bitter: Clashes, Polarisation Mark Final Hours Before Polls

Patna | November 5, 2025:
As the first phase of Biharโ€™s 2025 Assembly elections looms, the political atmosphere across the state has turned increasingly tense and confrontational. Verbal sparring between the NDA and Mahagathbandhan has intensified into allegations of voter manipulation, communal polarisation, and attempts to disrupt the democratic process.

Reports from Gaya, Bhagalpur, and Darbhanga indicate a spike in localised clashes between rival party workers during campaign events, prompting the Election Commission to step up security measures and deploy additional paramilitary forces in sensitive constituencies.

At a press briefing, Chief Electoral Officer H.R. Pandey assured that the state is โ€œfully prepared for peaceful polling,โ€ adding that digital surveillance, drone monitoring, and quick-response teams have been activated to prevent violence and ensure transparency.

The campaign rhetoric, meanwhile, has grown sharper. Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the opposition of โ€œspreading chaos and falsehoods,โ€ while RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav fired back, saying the ruling alliance โ€œhas turned fear into a campaign strategy.โ€

Analysts observe that the election narrative โ€” once dominated by jobs and development โ€” has shifted toward identity and emotional politics. โ€œThe discourse is increasingly polarised, driven by caste rhetoric, welfare promises, and national symbols,โ€ said political analyst Nirmala Sinha.

Civil society groups have appealed for restraint and responsible campaigning, warning that hate-driven politics risks overshadowing key governance issues. As Bihar heads into polling on November 6, the state stands at a crossroads โ€” between democratic debate and divisive politics.
