Türkiye has signed a landmark £8 billion (US$10.7 billion) agreement with the United Kingdom to acquire 20 Eurofighter Typhoon jets, marking the largest British defense export in over a decade.
The deal, finalized during UK Defence Secretary Grant Shapps’ visit to Ankara, aims to enhance Türkiye’s air defense capabilities and deepen NATO cooperation. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan hailed the partnership as a “new era of strategic collaboration” between the two nations.
Analysts note that the move strengthens NATO’s southern flank and counters regional competition in the eastern Mediterranean.
