University of Waterloo Launches $10,000 PostGrid Innovation Scholarship to Support Global Deep-Tech Student Projects

Waterloo, Canada | November 10, 2025

The University of Waterloo has announced the launch of the $10,000 PostGrid Innovation Scholarship, an international initiative aimed at supporting deep-tech student research and entrepreneurial projects with real-world impact. The new scholarship, backed by PostGrid — a leading global communication-automation platform — seeks to empower students developing technologies that advance the fields of AI, robotics, cybersecurity, and data-driven innovation.

Fostering Global Deep-Tech Talent

The scholarship will be open to both domestic and international students, including those pursuing collaborative or startup-based projects in partnership with universities and incubators worldwide.
According to the announcement, the program aligns with Waterloo’s longstanding focus on hands-on, experiential learning and innovation-led education, reinforcing its role as one of the most entrepreneurial universities in Canada.

Dr. Vivek Goel, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Waterloo, noted that initiatives like PostGrid’s award “help bridge the gap between discovery and deployment — giving students a chance to take their deep-tech ideas from concept to market-ready solutions.

Driving Cross-Border Collaboration

PostGrid’s partnership with Waterloo also reflects a growing trend of industry-academia collaborations designed to support the next generation of innovators tackling global challenges. The scholarship will prioritise proposals that demonstrate scalable potential, interdisciplinary collaboration, and societal benefit — from sustainable manufacturing to digital identity systems.

Ray Hein, CEO of PostGrid, stated that “supporting global student innovators isn’t just philanthropy — it’s a long-term investment in the technological ecosystems that will define the future.

Global Outlook and Impact

With applications open globally, the initiative reinforces Canada’s position as a magnet for international research talent and aligns with its broader strategy of promoting innovation-driven education and entrepreneurship. The first cohort of PostGrid Scholars will be announced in early 2026.
